Practical Nursing

Thank you for inquiring about the Practical Nursing program at CSI. Enclosed are your program information and reference forms. Admission to the nursing program is a separate process from general college admission. In order to apply for the Practical Nursing program, the following items (1 through 5) should be on file in the Health Sciences and Human Services Department office no later than February 15 (August entry) or October 15 (January entry). Items may be sent to Pam Holloway, College of Southern Idaho, P.O. Box 1238, Twin Falls, Idaho 83303-1238, or turned in to the Health Sciences and Human Services office. Items 1 through 5 must be turned in at the same time in one packet. Individual items will not be accepted!

All students must:

  1. Application to the Nursing Program (enclosed);
  2. High school transcript or proof of completion of GED transcript;
  3. For students who have earned college credit, college transcripts;
  4. Two personal references from people other than family members (see enclosed forms);
  5. Employer reference (see enclosed form);
  6. Also include in your packet any of the following that you wish: copy of CNA license, copy of health-related work documentation.
  7. Letter of Intent-written in testing center

This letter covers such topics as:
Your reason for wanting to be a Licensed Practical Nurse
Your expectations of nursing
Discuss your personal strengths and weaknesses as well as your plans following completion of the nursing program
This will be graded and sent on to the Nursing Office by the Testing Center.

Admission to the nursing program is competitive, with more applicants than spaces available. Completing the pre-requisites varies depending on the applicant's background. Advisors work with each student to set a plan that is individualized.

After February 15 (or October 15), all candidates' scores will be totaled. Those candidates with the highest scores will fill the first 40% of seats available. All other applicants who have a total score of 50 or above will be included in a random computer selection process in order to fill the remaining seats available. All candidates will be notified by mail. Alternates will be notified when a place becomes available.

A nursing advisor is available in the Nursing Office by appointment. All pre-nursing_ students should start their registration process for CSI classes by conferring with a Nursing Program advisor. You may schedule an appointment by calling 732-6700.
