Practical Nursing Educational Goals
Upon completion of the Practical Nursing Program, the graduate will:
- Be eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN);
- Apply principles from behavioral, medical, and nursing sciences in implementing care of patients with common recurring health problems;
- Use the nursing process to recognize and meet the needs of the patients with common recurring health problems in structured settings;
- Demonstrate critical thinking and perform psycho-motor skills in providing direct nursing care;
- Function as a knowledgeable member of the multidisciplinary health care team;
- Assist the patient in meeting his/her health care needs by participating in patient/family teaching;
- Identify community resources available for promotion and maintenance of health and well-being of the individual;
- Distinguish between the responsibilities and legalities of the Licensed Practical Nurse and other health team members;
- Demonstrate the ability to function within the scope of practice related to the LPN leadership/management role;
- Assume the responsibility for life-long learning.
