Entrance Requirements and Application Process

MUST APPLY to the College of Southern Idaho (to become a student & get a student ID). Some of you have already done this. Submit all official transcripts (high school and/or college depending on your circumstances) or GED/HSE to Admissions & Records at 315 Falls Avenue; P.O. Box 1238; Twin Falls, ID 83303-1238.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT

Students must be able to:

  1. Perform motor skills safely, such as:
    1. Lifting, bathing, positioning, and transporting patients;
    2. Moving efficiently enough to meet the needs of several clients in a timely fashion;
    3. Lifting, positioning, or moving an unconscious client in order to perform lifesaving procedures.
  2. Perform activities requiring manual dexterity, such as:
    1. Giving injections;
    2. Operating equipment and devices such as thermometers, blood pressure cuffs, and IV pumps;
    3. Efficiently operating equipment and devices in emergency situations;
    4. Inserting and/or maintaining any client catheters or other tubes.
  3. Perform activities requiring accurate and efficient interpretation and communication of information in English, both written and spoken. For example:
    1. Responding to a physician’s order;
    2. Reading and recording information;
    3. Directing assistive staff.
  4. Respond to signals, alarms, and other displays indicating urgent client need, and take immediate action.
  5. Perform effectively under stress.
  6. Demonstrate ability to analyze data, calculate, and measure.
  7. Disabilities:
    Any student with a documented disability may be eligible for related accommodations. To determine eligibility and secure services, students should contact the coordinator of Disability Services at their first opportunity after registration for a class. NURSING APPLICATION PROCESS AND WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR APPLICATION PACKET:

  1. Complete Application to Registered Nursing program
  2. Submit unofficial high school transcripts or GED/HSE (with graduation date) and all unofficial college transcripts (including this college; CSI) so we may score you correctly.
  3. One Employer Reference
  4. Two Personal References (NOT family members) that know you in a professional setting
  5. Also include in your packet any of the following that you retain:
    • Current copy of CNA license. (front and back)
    • Copy of ACT scores (these, most of the time, can also be found on your high school transcripts if you took the tests).
    • Documentation of College/University degree awarded.
    • Copy of health-related field credential (Ex: RT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, ST, MA, DT, etc).
  6. Essay for Letter of Intent. Must be completed at Testing Center. You will write:

    *** Your reason(s) for wanting to be a Registered Nurse, expectations of nursing, discuss your strengths and weaknesses, your plans upon completion of the nursing program.

  7. Applicants must have 56 points by deadline date of either February 15th or October 15th (October 15th is starting 2010) in order to apply to the nursing program. Example of the Score Sheet used can be found HERE.

  8. You will only receive points for documentation you provide in your application packet. Please remember, licensing must be current and kept current.
    *** Once you are placed on an Alternate list, you no longer update information to gain points. ***

Click on the RN Trak link: https://www.csi.edu//trak/rn. Remember, you are responsible for making sure your application is scored correctly.

Question: When will my application be scored and my RN Trak updated?
This process can take up to two months.

Question: If I did not have enough points the first time I applied, what do I need to do by the next application deadline?
If you applied to the Registered Nursing program and did not have enough points to be placed on the alternate list, you must provide an updated transcript or any other documentation you want scored by each deadline until you are successfully placed on the alternate list.

OR you can turn it in personally at the Health Sciences and Human Services office located in the Aspen Building, RM 164.

A nursing advisor is available by appointment or walk-in. You can schedule an appointment by calling 732-6700 or contact Kathleen Neal, HSHS Advisor at 732-6730. All pre-nursing students need to start their registration process by meeting with a nursing program advisor.

All applications are scored and totaled and all applicants with 56 points or more are placed on an alternate list. The top 60% of the applicants are placed at the beginning of the list and the other 40% are placed by random computer selection. All applicants are notified of their status by mail and are given a seat in the program when one is available. There is approximately a year to a year and a half wait to enter the program, due to the many applicants.

Chemistry, English 101 and six (6) other Gen. Ed. credits are required to be successfully completed to start the 1st semester of Nursing courses.
