The Surgical Technology curriculum offers classes for the skilled person to enter into the health care environment as a surgical technologist. The Program offers a Technical Certificate as well as an Associate Degree in Surgical Technology.
This certificate enables the student to be employed at entry level. The general education classes and credits are transferable to other Allied Health curricula or programs. The student is encouraged to obtain counseling from faculty to ensure that the proper courses are completed prior to enrollment or transfer to a different career field.Starting January 1, 2013 the Technical Certificate option in Surgical Technology will be retired and the Associate of Applied Science Degree will be the only option for students. Currently the components of the degree are under revision. Many "required" aspects of the program will change, and there will be added pre-requisites to the program. The Surgical Technology program, is an integral unit of the Health Sciences and Human Services department of the College of Southern Idaho. The program educates the student to assist the surgical team to become a vital member of the multidisciplinary healthcare workforce.
